Part of the armor of God is the Sword of the Spirit which is the word of God.(Ephesians 6:10-20 for the full armor of God) It is impossible to take a stand against the enemy if we do not know the word of God. This is how God speaks to us, through his word and so, we should be quick to listen.
I understand that sometimes, it is hard to read our bibles. There are many distractions in this world we live in, and they are placed there by the enemy to pull us away from God. To prevent us from hearing his word because the word is alive and in the word is power. The power that, by the authority of Jesus Christ, we are blessed with. The enemy knows this power and will try VERY hard to separate and blind us to it. However, because the word is alive, the smallest verse can change a life. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."
EVERY. SINGLE. VERSE. Every single verse can be used to transform and prepare us for the work of God. So in those moments where I do not have the strength, or when I am under spiritual attack, or when I do not have my bible on me, I try to meditate on the verses I have memorized and keep close to my chest. Hopefully, these will be as helpful to you as they are to me. Please feel free to comment your favourite verses or verse that helped you through a rough time.
Verses for Anger
Anger is something that we are told many times to control. Sometimes things may get out of hand but in those times, I find that meditating on the word helps calm me down.
James 1:19-20 My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.
Psalms 4:4-5 Be angry, and do not sin; ponder in your own hearts on your beds, and be silent. Offer right sacrifices, and put your trust in the Lord.
Matthew 5:22 But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire.
Ephesians 4:26-27 Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil.
Verses for Anxiety
1 Peter 5:6-7 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
Isaiah 35:4 Say to those who have an anxious heart, “Be strong; fear not! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God. He will come and save you.”
Luke 12: 22-31 22 And he said to his disciples, “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat, nor about your body, what you will put on. 23 For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing. 24 Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds! 25 And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? 26 If then you are not able to do as small a thing as that, why are you anxious about the rest? 27 Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 28 But if God so clothes the grass, which is alive in the field today, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith! 29 And do not seek what you are to eat and what you are to drink, nor be worried. 30 For all the nations of the world seek after these things, and your Father knows that you need them. 31 Instead, seek his kingdom, and these things will be added to you.
Jireh by Maverick city Music is a great way to memorize this verse
Philippians 4:6-7 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Verses for Sadness
Psalms 34:18 The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.
Psalms 147:3 He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
Isaiah 57:15 For thus says the One who is high and lifted up, who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy:
“I dwell in the high and holy place,
and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit,
to revive the spirit of the lowly,
and to revive the heart of the contrite [...]"
2 Corinthians 7:6 But God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the coming of Titus
Verses in Times of waiting
Romans 12:12 Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.
James 5:7 Be patient, therefore, brothers,[a] until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives the early and the late rains.
Ecclesiastes 3:11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man's heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.
Isaiah 55:8-9 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
Isaiah 40:30-31 Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare[b] and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
Verses for when you feel Tempted
Matthew 6:13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
2 Corinthians 13:9 For we are glad when we are weak and you are strong. Your restoration is what we pray for.
2 Chronicles 20:17 You will not need to fight in this battle. Stand firm, hold your position, and see the salvation of the Lord on your behalf, O Judah and Jerusalem.’ Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed. Tomorrow go out against them, and the Lord will be with you.”
Proverbs 4:13 Keep hold of instruction; do not let go; guard her, for she is your life. Do not enter the path of the wicked, and do not walk in the way of the evil. Avoid it; do not go on it; turn away from it and pass on.
